Lot Title:
1787 Massachusetts cent (Ryder 3-G, R.3), NGC AU details/improperly cleaned.
Description:
FRS, Sr. Set. The appearance at first glance is that of a mostly brown UNC with a quarter of original mint brick-red remaining, but NGC has proclaimed the coin "improperly cleaned", warranting closer inspection. Then it becomes apparent the coin has been wire-brushed with exceptional delicacy such that the surfaces now show satiny smoothness, yet scarcely any of the "artificial luster" such a process usually entails. Given the very light wear and near-flawless recoloring, this should prove to be a surprisingly attractive type coin in spite of the appropriate disclaimers. (PCGS# 000302)
