Lot Title:
1897-S PCGS MS-64 CAC.
Description:
The obverse especially yields an unexpected level of prooflike character, with the fields showing obvious reflectivity despite the presence of very strong, sparkling luster. The delightful, spinning sparkling effect carries over nicely to the reverse, but here, the central motifs features less frostiness than did Liberty's portrait; thus the contrast is somewhat more subdued. One of the more difficult issues in the Barber half-dollar series for all grades, 1897-S remains a consistently desirable in MS-64, with a value at least three times that of the many "common" dates.
