Lot Title:
1807 Heraldic Eagle. NGC XF details/damaged.
Description:
BD-1, R.4+ (small date, small stars). NGC's very terse yet ambiguous assessment of "damaged" appears to reference innumerable tiny contact points that cover each side, though the marks are so tiny that without a loupe, they impart something of a matte appearance. Surprisingly, tilting the coin back and forth reveals enticing, lively luster skating through the peripheral areas, suggesting a details grade of XF-45. Affordable entry into a very difficult era for American gold. (PCGS# 008092)
