Lot Title:
1802 (JR-4) XF details/cleaned.
Description:
The consignor states that he sent this dime in at one time really just for authentication purposes more than "grade", knowing full well that it was likely to garner an "improperly cleaned" designation, which is exactly what happened. However, NGC did note "XF details", which explains why this proves to be a rather acceptable type coin, presenting conspicuous hair details and generally intricate definition in the eagle's wings. Central weakness due to strike prevents a fully readable "E PLURIBUS UNUM", but amazingly, the reverse still shows remnants of luster within the shield lines. Any obvious sign of cleaning has been overcome on the obverse by thick, dark patina while the reverse shows salmon-gold patina over a pale silvery surface. (PCGS# 004472)
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
