Lot Title:
1912-D PCGS MS-64.
Description:
The Nickel-To-A-Doughnut Collection. Softly brilliant overall, the entire surface features an intriguing two-toned "mystic" effect that alternately presents salmon-grey and lavender-blue overtones, depending on viewing angle. Liberty's portrait displays virtually no contact marks aside from a thin tick above her ear, and the reverse seems entirely clear of contact. Although not fully struck, the details certainly surpass the level normally seen for 1912-D. Just a minuscule patch at the lower right corner of Liberty's neck presents the only visible upgrade deterrent. (PCGS# 003874)

Technical criteria probably suggest a higher grade, including a nearly full strike and a lack of major abrasions. However, rather dark patina has settled across each side, attenuating the luster... |
