(About The Images)
1900 NGC PF-66 RD. 1900 NGC PF-66 RD.
Lot Title: 1900 NGC PF-66 RD.
Description: French Connection Estate. 9 graded PF-66, 5 higher at NGC. If the flames from a dancing fire could be seized and compressed into a small penny, it would be this color, with the entire coin aflame in brilliant, searing copper-orange vibrancy. The only relief in sight from such burning brilliance is a small magenta accent left of UNITED on the obverse. Now, pessimists amongst us might decry the number of proof Indian cents that have received a "boost" to their color from chemical assistance, but for an absolute fact, we know that has never been the case here. The consignor's great-grandfather purchased this coin from the mint and somehow had the immense foresight to preserve it between other coins, and then within a protective paper roll. Thus, while the edge presents some expectant greying from simple oxidation, the obverse and reverse retain utterly pristine and unquestionably original mint red color. In effect, this stunning jewel is a time capsule that could serve as a reference coin for what the truest of true, original copper coins should look like. All that holds back a higher technical grade is the aforementioned spot at lower left, but it also serves as a witness to the unaltered preservation of the entire surface, and is there really anything more one could ask for?
