Lot Title:
1874-S NGC AU-55.
Description:
Mintage: 10,000, 11 graded AU-55, 6 higher. A true mint-state example of 1874-S may not exist, as neither PCGS nor NGC lists one above AU-58, and a brief glance at the population report for AU-55 instantly pegs this as a condition rarity. This example displays sparkling luster racing through the obverse stars, while the reverse retains a strong majority of original cartwheel effect and shows scarcely more than cabinet friction on the highpoints. Perhaps as important as the grade, the coin suffers no singularly important blemishes nor are there any distracting spots. Truly about as nice as an 1874-S eagle can get. (PCGS# 008671)
