Lot Title:
1873 NO ARROWS, CLOSED 3. PCGS PF-64CAM CAC.
Description:
At some point, the grading services seem to have finally caught onto the notion that a coin can be toned, yet still warrant a cameo designation. PCGS prudently supplied the accolades for this obvious CAMEO proof dime, even though slender field areas above and below Liberty's portrait shimmer with vibrant rainbow coloration. Liberty's motif features heavy frost, but the fields do not provide quite the requisite level of reflectivity to garner a DCAM designation. Several tiny planchet flaws on the obverse show as slight depressions, but are strangely unobtrusive even under magnification. (PCGS# 084766)

Drop dead gorgeous, most potential bidders will see this near-white dime as an undergraded and under-designated proof at first glance. Indeed, the obverse seems close to DCAM, except that few... |
