Lot Title:
1911 NGC PF-67.
Description:
How this much contrast failed to garner "cameo" accolades defies all logic. One might argue that the toning on the reverse disguises any cameo effect, but one quick glance at Liberty's portrait is all it takes to proclaim fresh, new dies. There is just no doubt at all that the obverse rates at least a CAMEO designation, and perhaps resubmission would at least earn a "star" from NGC? On the other hand, while the obverse is more or less mostly white with rim toning, the reverse is admittedly heavily draped in deep aqua-blue tone. (PCGS# 004895)

A pair of common Barber dimes, both certified. The 1911 is graded MS-64 in an early ANACS slab, and frankly, it looks better than many graded MS-65 today. The 1914 is graded MS-63 in a recent NGC... |
