Lot Title:
1882 PCGS MS-64.
Description:
Breen-6396, mintage: 1576, 26 graded MS-64, 11 higher. While not counted among the elite "rare dates", 1882 commands a premium over the truly common dates in the series, yet still remains relatively affordable enough to serve type purposes well. No marks affect the surfaces for this almost-gem example, with surface contact comprises merely of scattered fuzzy hairlines in the obverse left field. Scintillating luster sparkles in broad swaths through the fields with the reverse showing particularly glorious effect. As is often the case for these very low gold emissions, the coin offers meaningful prooflike tendencies, and also exhibits a mightily repunched "2" in the date, the initial punching wildly out of place well above the correct final location. (PCGS# 008004)
