Lot Title:
1788 Vermont (Ryder-16) VF.
Description:
Ryder-16 garners a rarity estimate of R.1, indicating that it is quite a common Vermont, with practical experience verifying this assessment. Still, though there are many examples on the market and in dealer stock at any given time, quite a few reflect the poor planchet quality that pervades the series. This coin was struck on better-than-average stock, as can be deduced by the smooth leather-brown planchet, and to great advantage, both sides are properly centered. The date shows clearly above a nice row of triangular denticles on the reverse, while the obverse shows a robust portion of the edge decoration. A single moderate scratch descends abruptly from the effigy's chin and will detract a bit from bid levels, but this should not deter any collector who is determined to obtain a nice planchet. (PCGS# 000563)
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
