Lot Title:
1794 Franklin Press token, Plain Edge NGC MS-62.
Description:
A strong and very desirable example from an early die-state, the obverse shows no sign at all of the die-crack normally seen entangled within the press. "E" and "R" in LIBERTAS do display the common die defects. The commercial MS-62 might be a touch conservative, given given the subtle prooflike reflectivity of the fields, which also benefit from a delicate touch of bluish iridescence. Nice! Specialists attribute these tokens as a commemoration of Benjamin Franklin's brief tenure at at Watt's Printing Works in London, the association commemorated by a plaque still on premises. (PCGS# 000630)
