Lot Title:
1864-S VF details/surface residue.
Description:
Without doubt, this appears to be an amazingly original coin, even upon close inspection, as the earth-tone rose-grey patina looks virtually ideal, displaying consistent texture and patina everywhere. However, both sides seem very slightly glossy as if coated by a fragile veneer of oil. There may very well be nothing at all wrong with this difficult seated quarter, but we are being cautious here! LIBERTY on the shield is extremely bold, and details overall should readily meet or exceed very-fine sharpness. The value of 1864-S escalates rapidly above this level. (PCGS# 005460)
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
