1880 NGC PF-67 ULTRA CAMEO.
Description:
NGC has certified five examples at PF-67 UCAM, and zero higher, tying this as the finest known to their certified population. Splendid eye-appeal incorporates several factors that bring this amazing quarter to the pinnacle of pristine numismatic quality. In the first place, both sides display irresistible silvery whiteness comprised of deep, vast reflectivity in the fields, and utterly pure snow-white frost blanketing the devices. Needless to say, these are the elements that lead directly to NGC's ULTRA CAMEO designation. Hold the coin up to eye level, and one can literally see accurate reflection from objects across the room. To produce such amazing technical quality, the dies had to contact the planchet with great force, and that can easily be affirmed by discovery of exceptional details. The fourth and thirteenth stars possess mild softness of detail, and Liberty's foot barely avoids absolute definition, but otherwise the coin looks almost perfectly struck. Finally, careful preservation has ensured virtually mark-free surfaces, excepted by one small contact mark right on Liberty's jaw and another on her lower arm. Take away these maverick offenders, and this proof might approach perfection. (PCGS# 095581)
