(About The Images)
1936 ICG Satin PF-67. 1936 ICG Satin PF-67.
Lot Title: 1936 ICG Satin PF-67.
Description: Collectors of the 1930s (and for that matter, even today) found it difficult to readily distinguish nickels struck in "satin proof" format from high quality business strike production, and the similarity in appearance between such coins is what led to the demise of the satin format for the buffalo nickel more than seventy years ago. Frugal preferances of the Depression era would have thought was that there was no point in paying a premium for a supposedly "special coin" that looked just likes the ones entering circulation. Even today, they are valued below their brilliant counterparts (although your cataloger happens to have an affinity for them). Nonetheless, the exceptionally sharp, square interior rims can barely be discerned on this example, despite the fact that the ICG slab insert partially hinders inspection. Icy blue tone mingles with a limited selection of chartreuse-tan hues on both sides, and though the toning pattern is not necessarily THE ideal, it does not inhibit appreciation of the lovely and sharply struck design elements. Optimistically graded at PF-67, but always a highly desirable coin. (PCGS# 003994)

This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
