Lot Title:

Four Tokyo Disney dollars, two 500 Yen and two 1000 Yen, all PCGS certified.
|
Description:
|
Tokyo Disneyland was the first Disney park to be opened outside the United States, with guests admitted on April 15, 1983. Today, it is the third most visited theme park, falling behind only its sister parks here in the United States. The Disney Dollar (or Gift Card) essentially amounts to corporate scrip, which is what makes it a viable numismatic item. They were used to allow guests to purchase goods and items from Tokyo Disneyland and many of the other recreational facilities within the Disney universe. They came in two denominations: 500-yen and 1000-yen. The first series features Mickey Mouse on the 500-yen, and Donald Duck on the 1000-yen, while the second series inverts their vignettes, showing Donald on the 500-yen, and Mickey on the 1000-yen. Since the introduction of these notes, they have become extremely popular with collectors, to the point that PCGS will actually certify and grade them. Something you don't see every day in this four note lot.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
