Lot Title:
1903 "double struck" Indian cent ANACS AU-50.
Description:
Modern errors are certainly familiar to most collectors, and rather prevalent in the marketplace these days, especially given the alleged "help" by clandestine manufacture within the mint. Not so this outstanding 1903 Indian head cent, as it was struck at a time when such errors really were usually accidental. In addition to the normal strike, part of an additional, strong strike ejects outward from the obverse between 12:00 and 2:00, produced about 90% off-center and rotated 90 degrees. That the coin circulated long enough to achieve a nice, AU level without being noticed is almost too good to believe. A requisite addition to any collection of better mint errors, from the Kibitz Collection. (PCGS# 002214)
