(About The Images)
1868 PCGS PF-64 (green label). 1868 PCGS PF-64 (green label).
Lot Title: 1868 PCGS PF-64 (green label).
Description: All proof dollars of the post-war era are scarce and highly valued for type purposes, with emphasis given coins of this grade range by collectors who have practical limitations on their budgets. Setting aside cameo considerations, expect to pay well over double for a coin just one point higher in grade! PCGS chose not to supply any indication of cameo effect, yet such contrast becomes obvious even under casual examination, as light frost delicately textures the primary design motifs. This coin offers somewhat mirrored fields and has fewer hairlines than expected of the PF-64 grade level, although prudent examination reveals an extraordinary number of extremely tiny depressions in the fields, possibly the remnants of an improperly prepared planchet. Fortunately, the aberrations are so tiny that literally a microscope is required to see them, yet they are likely of sufficient quantity to deny the perfect reflectivity that a higher grade would imply. An attractive beige-gold cast embraces each side, with a small dark spot noticeable within Liberty's lower hand. (PCGS# 007016)
