Lot Title:
1840-D TALL 5. PCGS Genuine (code 92, XF details/cleaned).
Description:
Although semi-reflective due in some part to cleaning, it seems likely the coin was a bit prooflike when struck. These bright yellow surfaces display none of the greenish cast often associated with Dahlonega gold, but their texture is perfectly in character, with the usual myriad tiny ticks and marks in the fields. A good long rest in a proper numismatic environment might go far toward restoring respectable patina, with the wait well worth it given the appealing, sharp details seen on either side. (PCGS# 008198)
