Lot Title:

1888-O (VAM-4) DDO "hot lips" PCGS XF-45.
Description:
PCGS oddly chose to indicate "doubled die obverse" on the slab insert, but anyone interested in silver dollars would call this the "hot lips", colloquial for the extremely popular VAM-4. Low grade examples still get cherry-picked from old hoards even to this very day, but the variety is extremely difficult to locate in high grade, with AU examples worth a grand, and mint-state examples very rare. Even at this the XF-45 level, the coin is not easy to locate. Light wear is discernible on the high points, though lack of the finest details is partly the fault of the improperly prepared obverse die. Fields are partially lustrous. (PCGS# 007308)
