Lot Title:
|
1859 AU details/edge nick.
|
Description:
|
An old-time AU-50, the grade reflects suitable reflective luster and light wear. A small rim nick at 1:00 likely will not even be noticed by most bidders, but is mentioned here just to be meticulous. Several diagonal grooves through the left digits of the date and the lower wreath were present when struck and are indistinguishable from adjustment marks. (PCGS# 007979)
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

1859 has no special distinction as a better date in the AU grades, thus avoiding any undue premium as a selection for type representation. Plenty of luster plays off the slightly reflective fields,... |

Natural medium gold surfaces display a little random friction in the fields and only light wear on the high points. Most of the original luster remains, and there is evidence of a nice die clash. ... |

A delicate hint of rose bedecks this specimen's golden surfaces. Some light hairlines, and a couple microscopic furrows next to the "F" on the obverse's inscription, are observed. Evidence of a... |
