Lot Title:
1861 PCGS AU-55.
Description:
Cartwheel effect is not quite as strong as expected, but the original strike may have been a little prooflike and lacking luster to begin with. Overall definition is definitely commensurate with AU-55, but finicky collectors may complain about a couple of deeper knifelike contact marks surrounding Liberty's cheek. (PCGS# 007982)

Price history for items of the same classification:
Lot # | Auction | Current Bid or Hammer Price | Description |
764 | The Collectors' Auction 2009 on 10/16/2009 | $1,300.00 |
1861 PCGS Genuine (AU details/obverse scratch).
AU details are marred by a moderately large scratch on Liberty's cheek, and a scrape in the field beneath AME. 1861 is one of the common three-dollar issues, but gains popularity as a Civil War date. |
891 | The Midwest Winter Sale 2008 on 02/08/2008 | $1,150.00 |
1861 Three dollar, XF-45, cleaned
Hairlines are not deep or blatant, but a multitude of them in every direction implies multiples wipes. Hints of mint luster persist in the protected areas, particularly on the reverse. |
