Lot Title:
1810 (S-284, R.3). VF.
Description:
Given that this is classic head copper, the color and surface texture, especially on the obverse, are more than acceptable by comparison to the numerous awful coins that flood the market. Sharpness just meets standards for VF, with solid hair detail, a nicely raised rim (albeit the rim is very narrow in places), and fairly strong details in the wreath. It is here on the reverse that mild roughness is evident, as that surface has a mild matte texture overall. The most apparent distraction on the obverse is a series of thin diagonal hairlines that emanate from the lower left margin and progress toward Liberty's neck. (PCGS# 001549)
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

1810 (S-284, R. 3) ANACS AU-50 details/corroded, and an 1812 S-288)...
AU-50 details might actually underrate the 1810, as the sharpness seems borderline mint-state, albeit there is softness precipitated by even, overall microporosity on both sides. As crazy as it may... |
