Lot Title:
Complete set of Indian Head cents (no 1856).
Description:
The 1856 is a replica, with "COPY" clearly inscribed on the reverse, although someone has made an effort to tone the coin to match the rest of the set. And Oh My, what a set it IS! The consignor was painstakingly meticulous in matching coins with AU to UNC details, and obviously had a strong preference for "brown" coins. It is almost unbelievable how well matched the coins are, and how consistently nice the planchet is for all. The murderer's row of 1866 through 1876 includes coins that show none of the awful corrosion almost always seen in album collections, though it appears 1877 is an AU+ that has been recolored. Obviously by intent, the consignor avoided purchasing UNC coins, as even the much easier second page has AUs almost exclusively, including an AU+ 1909-S. Truly an eye-popping collection from the Broken Hearts Consignment. Sixty coin lot.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
