Lot Title:
1882 PCGS PF-65 (green label).
Description:
A fragile layer of pastel-silver patina delicately accents the entire coin and brings with it an intriguing low-contrast presentation. This means that the coin must be tilted just so under a strong lamp in order to view substantial cameo contrast between the fields and the frosted motifs to best advantage. PCGS did not provide any such designation, but the cameo effect is refined from the proper viewing perspective, and of course, under intense scrutiny, the amazing proof sharpness becomes easy to appreciate. Taking a closer look, one finds a singular contact mark suspended in the field beneath Liberty's outstretched elbow -- and not another blemish of note. A gorgeous coin, one of a limited proof-only mintage of 1,097 pieces. (PCGS# 007062)

Blazing cameo contrast provides splendid eye appeal for this proof Trade dollar, and an ultra-cameo designation would be tempting if not for some breaks in the low lying areas of frost on Liberty's... |
