Lot Title:
Four half-cents.
Description:
1809 C-6 displays the usual rotation of about 60 degrees, and also strong AU details. Planchet quality is rather nice for the date, with the only defects being a few handling marks, leading to an EAC 40 estimate. This is hands-down the jewel of the lot, though there are still good things to come. 1828 C-3 is a little bluntly struck, resulting in sharpness of only XF, yet there is surprisingly potent underlying tan-red color. It could garner a grade of 40 from EAC members. 1835 C-1 has the usual die crack seen for this die state, along with pleasing XF details and no major problems. An old obverse pinscratch and a dig below the portrait might lead to an EAC 30. Finally, 1854 has XF details, but has been whizzed in a failed attempt to provide an UNC appearance. Four coin lot.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
