Lot Title:
1913 NGC PF-66 Star CAMEO.
Description:
Twentieth-century proof Barber coinage does not always come well produced, and pieces with nice cameo quality are difficult to locate "nice". NGC's "star" designation gives considerable assurance that this one IS "nice", and even a finicky collector will not be disappointed. Contrast on the obverse is instantly confirmed by even a cursory glance, though this is clearly no candidate for DCAM. The eagle actually offers only minimal contrast with the surrounding field, while Liberty's portrait floats nicely atop glittering mirrors. Mulberry-brown toning swashes across the right third of the obverse, and makes a brief appearance on the right side of the reverse as well. Neither side suffers from any obvious defects. While contrast is minimal and fairly subtle, reflectivity in the fields is fantastic, inhibited only by a layer of haze that may be removable through proper conservation. Details are razor sharp, as... |
