(About The Images)
1851 NGC MS-62+. 1851 NGC MS-62+.
Lot Title: 1851 NGC MS-62+.
Description: There appears to be no difference at all between this gold dollar graded MS-62+ and hundreds of others in MS-63 holders. It's simply a nice, original Choice BU coin, and sometimes, it would seem collectors would suffer less confusion with a return to simpler descriptive grades. At any rate, this khaki-gold coin displays respectable luster and good peripheral sharpness, with a bit of weakness at the center of each side. Very few marks and a couple of minor hairlines contribute the only surface distractions. (PCGS# 007513)

Lot #AuctionCurrent Bid or Hammer PriceDescription
983The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$2,800.00
1851 NGC MS-65.
The gold dollar of any of the three major types is one of the difficult (and expensive) coins to obtain even as a type at the MS-65 level. Utterly gorgeous sharpness dominates the obverse of this...
861The Collectors' Auction 2012 on 10/05/2012$2,900.00
1851 NGC MS-65.
Type-2 gold dollars garner most of the attention, but a superb, GEM quality example of the type-1 is not easy to find by any means. Here is a delightful example that features uncommonly attractive...
982The Midwest Summer Sale 2011 on 07/29/2011$370.00
1851 AU and 1862 AU.
Modest circulation causes the AU grade to be best applicable to both of these gold dollars. The 1851 grades about AU, and the 1862 should make the same grade, even accounting for a pin scratch on the...
983The Midwest Summer Sale 2011 on 07/29/2011$625.00
1851 and 1852, both MS-60.
A pair of unusually well struck gold dollars, although 1851 has the ubiquitous weaker date always seen. Either or both coins could quite easily grade better than the assigned MS-60 in this two coin...
756The Collectors' Auction 2010 on 10/15/2010$400.00
1851 NGC MS-62.
Pale beige-gold surfaces display a surprising number of hairlines even for the MS-62 grade, but these may be due to slide marks from improper album storage. Fewer such distractions appear on the...
757The Collectors' Auction 2010 on 10/15/2010$800.00
1851 PCGS MS-63.
Both sides are thickly dusted with sunflower-gold color and have a vintage appeal. A couple of oblong bagmarks rest on Liberty's face, and a spindly die crack connects the left most three stars.
907The Midwest Summer Sale 2010 on 07/23/2010$700.00
1851 PCGS MS-63.
Good strike quality is responsible for above average details on both sides, with a hint of shallow detail in the ear area and near the center of the reverse. 1851 is the first of four consecutive...
718The Collectors' Auction 2009 on 10/16/2009$415.00
1851 and 1851-O gold dollars, PCGS MS-61 and NGC AU-55.
New Orleans and Philadelphia are represented by this pair of gold dollars. The 1851 is grade MS-61 by PCGS, and the 1851-O is graded AU-55 by NGC. Two coin lot.
848The Midwest Winter Sale 2009 on 02/13/2009$475.00
1851 and 1853 PCGS.
A pair of gold dollars that hardly differ in quality despite the discrepancy in PCGS grades. The 1851 is grade MS-62 and is doused in satiny mint frost, while the 1853 grades AU-58, yet is similarly...
849The Midwest Winter Sale 2009 on 02/13/2009$410.00
1851 and 1853 MS-61.
A pair of gold dollars, including 1851 (PCGS MS-61) and 1853 (NGC MS-61).
868The Collectors' Auction 2008 on 10/17/2008$475.00
1851, 1856 and 1874 gold dollars.
Diminutive gold dollars shape this lot of type coins, none of them certified. They are carefully listed as follows: 1851 (AU-53 details, cleaned), 1856 (MS-60), and 1874 (MS-60 details, cleaned)....
869The Collectors' Auction 2008 on 10/17/2008$650.00
1851 PCGS MS-63.
A fresh looking mint state coin. Although the stars are respectably detailed, central details are noticeably flat. A pin scratch behind the hair bun and a handful of small blemishes on Liberty's cheek...
331The Midwest Summer Sale 2006 on 07/21/2006$750.00
1851 NGC MS-63.
Its delicate yellow surfaces display a glowing luster. Minute ticks, plus an engaging obverse die break, are discerned on this bold strike.
973The Midwest Winter Sale on 02/17/2006$150.00
1851 NGC AU-58.
A praiseworthy AU that is bright and has nice luster remaining.
974The Midwest Winter Sale on 02/17/2006$1,200.00
Three Gold Dollars. NGC MS-62.
1851, 1852, and 1853. Three admirable Gold Dollar examples. The 1851 and 1853 are both bright yellow-gold examples while the 1852 has more of a rich honey-gold glow. All are sharp looking coins.
975The Midwest Winter Sale on 02/17/2006$1,300.00
1851 PCGS MS-64.
Unusually clean surfaces that reflects a vibrant rose-gold color. The detail is fantastic on the obverse, and the date on the reverse, though soft, is stronger than many.
