Lot Title:
1895-S NGC MS-60 (no line) and 1900 NGC MS-63.
Description:
A rare grade in a rare holder, the 1895-S dime is graded MS-60 (!) in an NGC no-line embossed holder (!!). A splash of tone helps to hide obvious slide marks on the cheek, and hazy pastel colors wander aimlessly through the fields of both sides -- not the most beautiful presentation in the universe. On the other hand, 1895-S is maybe an underrated date in the series, and this particular example display some very nice die cracks around the edges of the portrait. The 1900 dime is quite mundane, despite the NGC MS-63 grade. A trifle dull and lackluster, this would look much better in an MS-62 holder. Two coin lot.

1895-S MS-60.

Dense toning that looks much like mint set toning of the 1950s enshrouds this coin with platinum and tobacco-grey patina. The "S" mintmark is beautifully repunched left. |
