(About The Images)
1795 (LM-10) NGC MS-60. 1795 (LM-10) NGC MS-60.
Lot Title: 1795 (LM-10) NGC MS-60.
Description: LM-10 in this die-state can be quickly identified by a nice rim break over "TY", and were that distinctive feature not present, then by how the final star touches the point of Liberty's bust. Substantial spearmint-blue patina crowds into the fields on both sides, just missing most of the devices where rust-tan tone gathers at the edge of major design elements. In some respects, this toning pattern tends to embolden the major motifs, yet it would not be easy to explain how such an odd combination of colors came to exist. But, figuring out every possible chemical permutation that could take place on a coin over the last two-hundred years borders on the neurotic, especially for a cataloger who has no background in chemistry so it would be better to spend more time looking at the coin! In that regard, sharpness is on fine display, with hair strands that manifest excellent separation between them. All the stars exhibit nice, long points, and the eagle perches proudly within his accurately delineated wreath. Minimal luster remains on either side, though it is likely that this coin began existence without much to begin with, and the patina tends to deaden the effect of any cartwheel effect that might remain. Liberty's cheek displays a couple of trivial, thin hairline scratches, and another curves downward in the field in front of her profile. A slightly more prominent scratch sneaks between the last two stars, while overall, the reverse shows even fewer abrasions than the obverse.

406The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$475.00
1795 Fine details/damaged.
Courteous Collection of Early Type. Sadly, the surface shows odd corroded texture in the right-hand part of the date, precluding visibility of the digits and thereby inducing a very low net grade. ...
529The Midwest Summer Sale 2014 on 07/18/2014$4,800.00
1795 (LM-9, R.4) PCGS XF-45.
LM-9 should serve very well for type purposes since it is not a rare die-marriage, and the PCGS XF-45 grade identifies this as a high, but not TOO high grade example. Putting the power of...
421The Midwest Summer Sale 2012 on 07/27/2012$2,800.00
1795 (LM-10 LDS, R.3) NGC VF-25.
LM-10 is readily attributed by the way the first and last stars are connected to Liberty's portrait, with this die-state showing an easily recognized cud above "TY". While VF-25 accurately reflects...
552The Midwest Summer Sale 2011 on 07/29/2011$1,950.00
1795 (LM-8, R.3) NGC VF-20.
Sharpness seems to be technically a bit better than the VF-20 assigned by NGC, but Liberty's portrait displays a healthy dose of adjustment marks. The reverse displays only a single circulation...
242The Collectors' Auction 2009 on 10/16/2009$300.00
1795 (LM-10, R-3) Fair-2/damaged.
As "original" as a damaged coin can be, surfaces are the most perfect dark grey color possible for vintage silver. LM-10 is the only die-marriage for which S1, S13 and the end digits of the date...
243The Collectors' Auction 2009 on 10/16/2009$11,500.00
1795 NGC MS-62.
Three berries can be counted inside the stem under the eagle's left (observed) wing, and by happy circumstance, this coincides immediately with LM-1, the first listed die-marriage for 1795. ...
579The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$475.00
1795 VG/old scratch.
An unattributed 1795 half-dime that is exceptionally original, but which suffers a lengthy obverse scratch. Destined for the collection of a budget conscious collector!
389The Collectors' Auction 2008 on 10/17/2008$1,950.00
1795 (LM-8, V-5, R-3), PCGS VG-10.
Central details are well outlined, though the rims are a little faded, particularly on the left and right sides of the obverse, and much of the reverse. It is possible that this coin was struck on a...
390The Collectors' Auction 2008 on 10/17/2008$1,250.00
1795 "LM-9, R.4" dime, XF, damaged rim.
Shaving of the right edge of this early half-dime likely represents a contemporary attempt to collect bits of silver off of multiple coins, a felonious procedure practiced by early malefactors who...
390The Collectors' Auction 2007 on 10/19/2007$2,400.00
1795 LM-1 R6 VF-30 Details, Burnished.
Few examples of this very rare die marriage would exceed the surprisingly attractive appearance of this lightly processed early half-dime. Apparently burnished to remove the effects of some planchet...
391The Collectors' Auction 2007 on 10/19/2007$4,600.00
1795 LM-8 AU-53 Details, Corroded, Cleaned.
Adjustment marks are visible along most the length of the front of Liberty’s portrait. Evenly micro-porous surfaces have been cleaned at one time, perhaps in an effort to smooth over the effects of...
444The Midwest Summer Sale 2007 on 07/27/2007$1,650.00
1795 LM-3, V-2a, R-5. ANACS VF-30 Details, Corroded, Scratched,...
Even though this very scarce issue has several ascribed surface irregularities, it is still visually desirable. The recorded mintage for this two-year half dime design is combined for the years 1794...
379The Midwest Winter Sale 2007 on 02/09/2007$1,000.00
1795 LM-10, V-4, R-3. NCS VG Details, Whizzed.
Although this specimen has been artificially altered, it still portrays a charming aspect. Its light silver centers are framed by a deeper hue that project a delightful antique quality. A few minor...
380The Midwest Winter Sale 2007 on 02/09/2007$2,800.00
1795 V-5, LM-8, R-3. PCGS VF-30.
The first star on this variety is between Liberty's second and third hair curls, and there are no berries beneath the Eagle's left wing. It is an earlier die state with the diagnostic break seen...
1101The Midwest Summer Sale 2006 on 07/21/2006$2,200.00
1795 LM-9, V-6, R-4. XF-45.
A handsome example from this two-year type misnomer, since the Philadelphia Mint recorded no Half Dimes being coined until early 1795. Those bearing the date 1794 comprise the majority of the pieces...
