Lot Title:
1857 (C-1, R.1) NGC MS-64 RB.
Description:
The dot on the first "A" in AMERICA shows up plainly to identify C-1, the only business-strike dies for the date. This coin is a visual delight, with a flagrant display of deep reddish-copper color that complements, but doesn't quite yield to steely cobalt patina. The obverse is about 60% red, the reverse about 30% red, and both sides 100% lustrous as expected of the MS-64 grade. Strike quality suffers a little from the usual apathy shown these late-date half-cents, but most of the stars manage to show interior details.
