(About The Images)
1795 Plain Edge, No Pole (C-5a, R.3). NGC VF-25 BN, Off Center. 1795 Plain Edge, No Pole (C-5a, R.3). NGC VF-25 BN, Off Center.
Lot Title: 1795 Plain Edge, No Pole (C-5a, R.3). NGC VF-25 BN, Off Center.
Description: No pole on the obverse, and the reverse has three berries right, four left and none of them next to the bows. Die state II is identified by the secondary fine die crack just above HAL. Once considered rare, C-5a has been reduced to R.4, but this is a fantastic example, providing about the finest color possible for a middle-grade copper. Hard, caramel-tan surfaces are entirely free from corrosion except for two spots, a single one on the bottom of the border on each side. Elevated portions of the design, including Liberty's portrait and the leaves on the reverse, indicate presence of some greenish iridescence, and contrast incredibly well with the surrounding fields. All observed blemishes, including a handful of hairlines crossing the portrait, one blemish on the cheek, and a few circulation marks as expected, are minor and well within parameters for a commercial VF-25 grade, as given by NGC. Because the strike is about 5% off-center left, that edge of the obverse displays no denticles, and indeed, the right row of denticles is shifted a little left of the extreme right edge, leaving thin crescent of planchet unstruck. Even given the caveats, the overall appearance is simply marvelous just from the aesthetic point of view for copper, and earns the Scotsman Cataloger's Choice award for rising above and beyond all reasonable expectations for an early copper of this type.

157The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$220.00
1795 Plain Edge, No Pole (C-5a) NGC F details/graffiti.
Courteous Collection of Early Type. The amazingly nice planchet would have produced a nearly jaw-dropping coin had normal, honest wear been all that figures into the grade, but some graffiti scrawled...
267The Midwest Summer Sale 2014 on 07/18/2014$700.00
1795 Plain Edge, No Pole (C-6a); and a 1797 (C-1), both VF details/as...
1795 C-6a shows unfortunate obverse damage that tends to subdue strong, bold details. The planchet seems to be bent or distended, although the reverse has considerably better eye-appeal aside from a...
207The Collectors' Auction 2012 on 10/05/2012$1,850.00
1795 Plain Edge, No Pole (C-6a, 2.0). PCGS VF-25.
Appealing, hard walnut-brown surface quality holds up well to inspection, revealing reasonably smooth texture and bold devices. The coin is struck about 5% off-center left, which eliminates the...
132The Collectors' Auction 2010 on 10/15/2010$2,100.00
1795 Plain Edge, No Pole (C-5a, R.3). PCGS VF-30 CAC.
No pole on the obverse and no berries near the ribbon means attribution as C-5a, with "plain edge" stated by PCGS. Curiously, CAC has stickered this slab even though the grade is highly dubious at...
133The Collectors' Auction 2010 on 10/15/2010$925.00
1795 Plain Edge, No Pole (C-5b, R.4). VG.
A grotesque, diagonal die break practically bisects the reverse and quickly leads to attribution as C-5b. Because of the practically shattered reverse die, sharpness must be determined almost...
134The Collectors' Auction 2010 on 10/15/2010$5,000.00
1795 Plain Edge, Thick Planchet, No Pole (C-6b, R.6). PCGS VG-8.
No pole and one berry left of the ribbon for C-6a. Three curly strikethroughs are attached to the peak of the Liberty cap and a couple of minor pits in ERTY are of minor consequence, given a handsome...
135The Collectors' Auction 2010 on 10/15/2010$3,900.00
1795 Plain Edge, No Pole, struck on TAL Token (C-6a, R.2). PCGS VF-30.
No pole and one berry left of the fraction gives C-6a, and as is often noted, a Talbot Allum & Lee under type is discernible, with "LBOT A / NE" noticeable beneath the date, and OMME visible above...
136The Collectors' Auction 2010 on 10/15/2010$2,900.00
1795 Plain Edge, No Pole (C-6a, R.2). NGC VF-35 BN.
No pole and one berry left, and there are no obvious indications of an under type for this C-6 die marriage. A terrific example for the commercial grade, surfaces exhibit gorgeous dark olive-brown...
137The Collectors' Auction 2010 on 10/15/2010$3,400.00
1795 Plain Edge, No Pole (C-6a, R.2). PCGS XF-40.
No pole on the obverse and a single berry left of the ribbon gives C-6a as proper attribution. Considerable eye-appeal derives from a planchet that displays no sign of under type, with excellent...
