Lot Title:
1833 (C-1, R.1) NGC MS-64 RD.
Description:
One set of dies, and apparently die-state V, with faint evidence of clashing beneath Liberty's chin, and additional clash marks entwined within the wreath. Without a doubt, this has to be one of the jewels of today's offering of half-cents, and it is certainly one of the nicest type coins in the sale. While 1833 is recognized as a hoard date for the denomination, much like cents from the Randall hoard, there is considerable benefit for high-grade type collectors when one may obtain an early copper coin from the first third of the nineteenth century with full mint-red color and fiery brilliance. Such collectors are most grateful for the often inadvertent foresight of the hoarders of such pieces! Fiery brilliance dominates both sides of this precious jewel, sparkling with luster and flaming with about 95% of the red intact. One oblong stain in front of Liberty's face denies both a "gem" grade and the distinction of being practically 100% red, but it is a small condolence for the cost savings over a coin certified as MS-65 RD. A fabulous coin in the perfect grade for the finicky type collector.
