(About The Images)
1803 Small Date, Small Fraction (S-256, R.3). XF, net VF. 1803 Small Date, Small Fraction (S-256, R.3). XF, net VF.
Lot Title: 1803 Small Date, Small Fraction (S-256, R.3). XF, net VF.
Description: In the Redbook, S-256 is a "small date, small fraction" variety and considered scarce (R.3). The die-state for this example features a die crack from the rim to "8" that arcs right through the bust and back to the rim, and several additional die cracks on the reverse that suggest die-state III. Dark walnut-brown with medium obverse corrosion and a dig in the obverse right field.

This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

1803 Small Date, Small Fraction (S-250, R.3) NGC XF-40.
A distinct Redbook variety, S-250 warrants a "scarce" (R.3) rarity estimate based on current knowledge. And this is a nice example, endowed with lovely deep walnut-brown patina that picks up some...

1803 Small Date, Small Fraction (S-253, R.2)). VF.

1803 Small Date, Small Fraction S-256, R-3. PCGS VF-35.
The surfaces are sepia in appearance, and relatively smooth. The design details were the result of a fairly strong strike. Full obverse rims, and about half of the reverse rims are full.
247The Midwest Winter Sale 2007 on 02/09/2007$750.00
1803 Small Date, Small Fraction, S-251, R-2. XF-40.
Without exception, this variety exhibits a modest bulging underneath Liberty's chin and a broader one under her lowest hair curl. Also diagnostic to this variety is the 2 mm. long fraction bar and...
