(About The Images)
1885 NGC PF-64 Ultra Cameo. 1885 NGC PF-64 Ultra Cameo.
Lot Title: 1885 NGC PF-64 Ultra Cameo.
Description: In many series, a PF-64 grade may not immediately seem all that impressive, all by itself. But within the series of proof gold dollars, in conjunction with the coveted UCAM designation, it should turn at least a few heads. The collector is assured of dramatic presentation within the happy collaboration of gold metal, very choice preservation and phenomenal cameo effect. Central devices are utterly and thoroughly overwhelmed with thick piles of cottony mint frost, and even the peripheral lettering stands out in frosty contrast against the multifaceted reflectivity of the fields. Can this much proof contrast really fit onto such a small coin? The numeric level is determined mostly by the presence of several hairlines in each of the obverse fields, and a handful of additional trivial hairlines appear on the reverse. But, examination to such a degree as to find such minor distractions also reveals lovely orange-peel texture in the fields, as well as a decidedly powerful strike. Normally, small coins can present only so much drama within a confined space, but this coin is big-time entertainment, without question.
