Description:
|
Attribution has been determined for each of these capped bust half-dollars, with a nice spread of dates from 1808 through 1830. There is an even dozen included, with a detailed list given as follows: 1808 O-105 R.3 (VF-30), 1810 O-107 R.3 (XF-40/cleaned), 1811 O-110 (F-12), 1812 O-104 (VG-8), 1814 O-104 intermediate die-state (F-12), 1819 O-108 R.3 (VF-30/cleaned), 1820 O-105 (VF-20), 1821 O-103 (VF-20/harshly cleaned, struck on defective planchet), 1825 O-113 (XF-40), 1828 O-114 R.3 (VF-20), 1829 O-105 (VF-30/cleaned), and 1830 O-117 "sm 0" (VF-30/lightly cleaned). "Defective planchet" with regard to the 1821 refers to a curious aberration of the surfaces on the reverse has the appearance of "cracked mud". Perhaps the planchet was poorly annealed? Plenty of attention is warranted by this twelve coin lot.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
