Lot Title:

Complete album of Barber half-dollars 1892-1915-S in a Dansco 7150 album.
|
Description:
|
The consignor has carefully documented a cost of exactly $2432 to assemble this Barber half-dollar set coin-by-coin in the 1980s and 1990s, with some individual coin prices noted on the back cover. From first coin to last, this is an absolutely fantastic assembly of supremely original dove-grey examples, all of which have full rims, or very nearly so in a few cases, and not one single coin has even a mentionable problem. Obviously, amazing skill was employed in the patient creation of this set. Grades are generally G-4 through F-12, with apparently none falling beneath that range, and a few that might qualify for slightly better judgment. As one of the eminently "doable" sets in those grades, there are no really tough issues, but some highlights might include: 1892-O (VG-10 and a sensational coin), 1892-S (G-4 full rims), 1893-O (VG-8 just barely, but marvelously original), 1893-S (VG-8 and again, exceptional), 1895 (F-15), 1896-S (G-4 with essentially complete but weak reverse rim), 1897-O (VG-8 with a somewhat weak reverse periphery), 1897-S (F-12 with LIBERTY barely present), 1899-O (F-12), 1904-S (G-6), 1913 (VG-8 and unbelievably nice), 1914 (G-4), and 1915 (G-6 and perfect).
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
