Lot Title:
1880 (BG-954, Low R.4) Octagonal Indian half-dollar. NGC MS-65 PL.
Description:
That a coin so diminutive in size can be described as "stunning" is a testament to the skill with which it was produced, and judging by the extreme sharpness seen on both sides, this BG-954 half-dollar must have been one of the first to fall off the dies. While most fractional gold is best enjoyed with the aid of a loupe, no magnification is required to assess the beauty of this shimmering little jewel! The fields shine with incredibly bright, yellow-gold reflectivity, and the devices appear nearly snow white in contrast. Succumbing to use of the loupe after all, it is clear that this was a lovingly preserved gem, and except for mint-made planchet flaws, the surfaces are virtually free from any defects whatsoever. An amazing, razor-sharp little masterpiece!
