Lot Title:
|
1913-S XF.
|
Description:
|
When dies are polished for an Indian gold coin, it is the low points which would reflect mirrored texture, and that can be seen on the eagle's intaglio details (the incised border, especially). Further, there is nice frosty texture visible on the Indian's neck and chest.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

1913-S MS-62.

Striking characteristic of the 1913-S half-eagle sometimes bears an uncanny resemblance to the 1911-D quarter-eagle in that the mintmark is frequently weak, while the opposing edge of the obverse... |

Certainly not a key date in the half-eagle series in circulated grades, 1913-S does become somewhat better even in lower mint-state grades, making an AU-58 example a good value. This dusky slider... |
