(About The Images)
1913-S MS-62. 1913-S MS-62.
Lot Title: 1913-S MS-62.
Description: Striking characteristic of the 1913-S half-eagle sometimes bears an uncanny resemblance to the 1911-D quarter-eagle in that the mintmark is frequently weak, while the opposing edge of the obverse often shows a knifelike edge. Such is the case here, as the "S" is a misshapen blob with only shallow detail. Fortunately, this has no bearing on grade, and in this case, MS-62 seems appropriate evaluation for a piece with nice, original two-tone patina and no trace of circulation wear. Planchet irregularity is limited to only trivial ticks, as there are none of the larger marks noted on most gold eagle coins. 1913-S becomes considerably scarcer in any higher grade

This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

1913-S NGC AU-58.
Certainly not a key date in the half-eagle series in circulated grades, 1913-S does become somewhat better even in lower mint-state grades, making an AU-58 example a good value. This dusky slider...
