Lot Title:
1883 MS-60/cleaned.
Description:
1883 is frequently prooflike, but the usually reflectivity for this example is inappropriately modulated by cleaned surfaces. Vertical hairlines are most apparent in the obverse left field. Further inspection suggests that an oval area in the right field has been skillfully smoothed, though it isn't apparent why this would have been done. At arm's length, this looks like a really nice coin, and it's unfortunate it wasn't allowed to rest on original technical merits, as the strike is very fine as well. MS-60 details.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

1883 PCGS MS-63.

Mintage: 10,800. Many examples of 1883 come prooflike, but this choice piece shows frosty texture and lovely satin luster. Essentially hairline-free, the grade seems to be entirely determined by... |

1883 NGC MS-63.
The original surfaces are extremely flashy, especially on the reverse, which appears semi-prooflike. This coin is housed in an older NGC holder, and from the looks of it is every bit of an MS-63, and... |
