Lot Title:
1877-S XF, 1891-CC AU/hairlines/surface abrasions, and 1892-CC/surface marks
Description:
Carson City is smartly represented in this gold-eagle trio, all three coins with pleasing detail. 1877-CC right on the fence between XF and AU, but has been modestly cleaned at some time in the past. 1891-CC seems to be MS-60, but too many hairlines traverse each side, and the surfaces are too bright to pass as original. Finally, 1892-CC grades AU-55 despite being a trifle pale in appearance. Three coin lot.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

Whereas silver coins dated 1877-S are among the most common of the era, the gold issues are much tougher (except for the double-eagle), and the 1877-S gold eagle in particular is a very difficult... |
