Lot Title:
1877-S Coronet eagle, ANACS AU-50
Description:
Whereas silver coins dated 1877-S are among the most common of the era, the gold issues are much tougher (except for the double-eagle), and the 1877-S gold eagle in particular is a very difficult issue to locate in any upper grade. In grades above AU-50, this low-mintage coin (17,000 minted) escalates dramatically in value, so that coins in AU-50, like the present piece, are often at the most comfortable pricing point for a collector. The present coin is pretty much devoid of color and has a thin scratch visible above Liberty's hair. As one expects from the grade, the surfaces have numerous tiny abrasions, none of which commands significant attention.

1877-S XF, 1891-CC AU/hairlines/surface abrasions, and 1892-CC/surface...

Carson City is smartly represented in this gold-eagle trio, all three coins with pleasing detail. 1877-CC right on the fence between XF and AU, but has been modestly cleaned at some time in the past.... |
