Lot Title:
1857-S NGC AU-53.
Description:
1857-S is a little better date in the quarter-eagle series at the AU level, and the NGC AU-53 grade seems well suited to the level of detail and luster seen here. Strong luster percolates rhythmically between the stars, although the fields are essentially devoid of the cartwheel effect that has been lost to circulation. Carrot-gold patina linger furtively within protected areas and offers pleasing contrast with the normal gold surfaces, and suggests a high level of original quality.
