Lot Title:
Mostly complete set of two- and three-cent pieces in a Dansco 6108 album.
Description:
The consignor indicates that he gave up on this collection literally in the 1980s, finding that he just couldn't afford to complete it on the wages of a part-time college job. He didn't regain interest in collecting after graduation, so he's determined to foist his treasures upon an unsuspecting public. Two-cent coins all show a full motto for the F - VF grade range, and include dates of 1864, 1864 "small motto" (VF with very slight evidence of an old cleaning), 1865, 1866, 1867, 1868 (AU/old dip), 1869, 1870, and 1871, but no 1872, with instead of a coin in that slot, a small note indicating wistful assessment of the cost of such a piece ($750). Three-cent nickels are mostly in the F-VF range, including dates of 1865 (VG), 1866, 1867, 1868, 1869, 1870, 1871, 1872, 1873 "closed 3", 1873 "open 3" (XF), 1874, 1975 and 1876.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
