Lot Title:
Complete set of Barber half-dollars in a Whitman Classic 9124 album.
Description:
Virtually every half-dollar in this set is an original coin, with perhaps 1893, 1895-S, 1896-S, 1897-O, 1901-S, and 1906-O displaying the most likely signs of cleaning. While there are no real "stoppers" in the Barber half series, many become somewhat more expensive with full rims and partial "LIBERTY" on the headband. Every single coin in this album displays a full, bold rim, and nearly all show at least part of LIBERTY. Highlights of particular note include: 1892-O (VG), 1892-S (F by the slimmest of margins), 1893-S (F and strong at that grade), 1896-S (F/dipped), 1897-O (F/dipped with strong detail), 1897-S (F), 1901-S (F/cleaned), 1913 (VG), 1914 (VG), and 1915 (VG). It is a very pleasing set with few weakness as described, and terrific eye appeal for those who enjoy honestly worn and honestly assembled collections.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
