(About The Images)
1889 NGC PF-65. 1889 NGC PF-65.
Lot Title: 1889 NGC PF-65.
Description: Significant coppertone patina gently deprives each side of full absolute brilliance, and on the reverse, there is a dash of hazy tobacco-tan patina at the lower left side of the wreath. Many examples of the terminal issue for the three-cent nickel series display little to no cameo contrast, and such is the case here.
Low Estimate: $500.00
High Estimate: $650.00

1889 (P01a, plate coin) PCGS PF-65 (green label).
1889 P01a, Plate coin. A gorgeous GEM with attractive aluminum-grey patina and subdued cameo effect.
492The Midwest Summer Sale 2011 on 07/29/2011$400.00
1889 NGC PF-65.
Either a small rim cud, or an unusual lamination can be seen clinging to the extreme outer edge of the reverse at 1:00. The coin overall displays a slightly yellow-tan cast that downplays any...
288The Collectors' Auction 2010 on 10/15/2010$370.00
1889 NGC PF-64.
Brassy grey tone splashes across the entirety of both sides, relieved in areas by the nickel-grey patina integral to these late-date three-cent coins. The strike for such late proof issues in the...
537The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$575.00
1889 PCGS PF-65.
Butter-amber patina thoroughly embraces this entire coin, providing something of a gold-plated appearance. The patina likely diminishes cameo potential, though the fields provide a little contrast...
570The Midwest Winter Sale 2009 on 02/13/2009$475.00
1889 PCGS PF-65.
Because the slab insert prevents examination of the edge, the "proof" designation offered by PCGS cannot be verified by that factor. This coin has cartwheel luster more typical of a business strike...
571The Midwest Winter Sale 2009 on 02/13/2009$425.00
1889 PCGS PF-65.
(Ex. Heritage 10/28/2008: 24060) Velvety design elements contrast just a little with the dimly reflective backdrop provided by the field luster. Two carbon spots are notable above and below the...
346The Collectors' Auction 2008 on 10/17/2008$625.00
1889 NGC PF-65.
Embossed NGC holders are popular with many collectors who seek out conservatively graded coins, and this one houses a PF-65 1889 three-cent nickel that looks like it could qualify for a cameo...
482The Midwest Winter Sale 2008 on 02/08/2008$775.00
1889 Proof three-cent nickel, PCGS PR-66 CAMEO
The merest hint of bronze patina visits areas of the portrait, but this diminutive coin flaunts a generally brilliant, untoned appearance. Extremely well struck, with a tiny strike through visible at...
393The Midwest Summer Sale 2007 on 07/27/2007$450.00
1889 NGC PF-65.
This specimen's utterly frosted motifs are further amplified by its luxuriant surfaces. A delicate lavender iridescence contributes to its visual opulence, and the marks are few.
394The Midwest Summer Sale 2007 on 07/27/2007$850.00
1889 NGC PF-67.
This is a magnificent Gem from the terminal year of issue for this classic denomination. The stunning frosted design motifs are exquisitely contrasted by nearly flawless mirrorlike fields. A whisper...

1889 NGC PF-65.
From the final year for this denomination's issue and with a total of 3,436 pieces struck. A scant number of flecks are able to be observed if a strong glass is employed. The frosty design elements...
919The Collector's Auction on 10/20/2006$625.00
1889 NGC PF-66.
A delicate whisper of rose accentuates this specimen's satinlike surfaces that are enhanced by frosty design elements. A couple of random specks and faint hairlines are mentioned for accuracy on this...
1098The Midwest Summer Sale 2006 on 07/21/2006$475.00
1889 NGC PF-65.
The satiny appearance of this specimen is enhanced by an exquisite golden rose hue. Its surfaces are reflective instead of being deeply mirrored. A couple insignificant flecks are noted on this...
