Flashy luster radiates from between the stars and suggests that this piece was semi-prooflike when struck -- not unexpected of Carson City coins of this vintage. While mildly abraded, few of the sizable marks expected of the mint are to be found, except for a few ticks relegated to the reverse fields. 12,000 gold eagles emerged from Carson City in 1883, and coins above the AU grade reflect a large price jump.
