Lot Title:
1887 PCGS MS-66.
Description:
Following a trend set in the 1870s, the 1887 gold dollar features a whimsically tiny mintage of 7500 pieces, yet survives in large numbers today even in high grades due to hoarding, or possible contemporary speculation at a time when coin collecting was in its infancy. Housed in a PCGS green-label holder is this very-gem example, and it simply beams with stunning satin-yellow luster and outstanding eye appeal. In addition to careful preservation, excellent production has imparted decisively bold detail, despite coming near the end of the mintage run, as can be deduced from the lack of prooflike qualities. Around a hundred and fifty pieces grade MS-66 or higher at both major services.
