Lot Title:
1927-S NGC MS-63.
Description:
Strike quality proved to be an issue at the San Francisco mint for just about anything they put out during the 1920s, and this characteristic is much of what makes it so difficult to grades S-mint coins of that era. At hand is a 1927-S half-dollar that clearly possesses surface quality finer than what is suggested by the MS-63 grade, yet a faulty strike failed to bring up central details on either side, resulting in a coin that is at once lustrous and a bit flat. Fortunately, the eye-appeal is aided by an attractive toast-gold border that is further enhanced by slivers of jade-green album color lying next to the lower obverse, and upper and lower reverse rims.

Luster shimmers with surprising vivacity for a 1927-S half, and details are sharper than usual, considering the many examples that were poorly struck. Limited patina has settled across much of both... |

An exquisite, lustrous example of this highly desirous date. The scattered ticks are detected only after careful scrutiny with a glass. Typically, it exhibits soft detailing in the central portions,... |

A nice, bright Walker with mottled peripheral toning on the obverse. The reverse is white. This is a super tough coin to find in higher grades, so don't let this one pass you by. |
